Ssc stenographer is a widely known job exam. It is conducted by SSC every year. Ssc stenographer is an examination that is conducted by SSC for the post of Stenographer Grade C and Grade D.

What is SSC Stenographer?

The work of a Stenographer is like a typist, but it is more than that. You have to write the sentences just after hearing them from the person. Then, you have to note down all the things consecutively when It is being spoken. After that, you have to type this all into the system.

It requires shorthand, which means you have to write in short form and then decode it and type it. For the job of stenographer, you have to learn shorthand.

Eligibility for stenographer

For the post of stenographer, candidates should be at least 12th passed from any recognized board. The Age should be between 18 to 30. For the post of grade d jobs, the maximum age is 27 years. Apart from this, you also have to learn shorthand; after tier 1, in tier 2 you have to qualify for the shorthand test.

SSC stenographer exam pattern

SSC conducts the SSC stenographer exam on two levels. The first level is an objective-based Computer-based test (CBT) and the second one is a skill test or shorthand test.

Tier 1
There are a total of 200 questions asked for 200 marks from general intelligence & reasoning, General awareness, and English language. The total duration of the exam is 2 hours (120 minutes) for handicapped persons. The total time duration is 200 minutes.

For correct answers, 1 mark will be awarded and for wrong answers, 0.25 marks will be deducted. No marks will be deducted in case of no answer.

For the English language, 100 questions will be asked for 100 marks, and for General awareness and Reasoning, 50-50 questions will be asked for a total of 100 marks.

All questions will be objectively based and the exam will be conducted online computer based. If you have qualified for tier 1, you will be asked for tier 2 which is for a skill test.

Tier 2

Ssc stenographer skill test

The skill test can be given in Hindi as well as English. You can choose your skill test language during the form-filling process. If you haven’t chosen any language, it will be conducted in the default English language.

Patterns of skill tests are as follows:-

For the post of Group C

Candidates will be dictated to a passage with the speed of 100 words per minute for 10 minutes and the same has to be noted down in shorthand notes and later it has to be typed on the computer.

To transcribe a total of 65 minutes will be given.

For the post of Group D

For the post of group D, Candidates will be dictated to a passage with the speed of 80 words per minute for 8 minutes and the same has to be noted down in shorthand notes, and later it has to be typed on the computer.

To transcribe a total of 50 minutes will be provided. For both the post of groups C and D some mistakes in transcribing are allowed. For general candidates, 5 to 7% of mistakes are allowed in both categories.

For obc and other reserved categories, 5 to 10% mistakes are allowed.
